The U.S May Lift Restrictions on Fully Vaccinated Travelers
On September 20, 2021, the Biden Administration announced plans to lift geographic travel ban restrictions in November for fully vaccinated passengers (from anywhere in the world) if they show results of a negative coronavirus test taken within 03 days before entering the United States.
For fully vaccinated international travelers, the 14-day quarantine requirement is no longer needed. The specific vaccines that qualify a traveler as “fully vaccinated” will be determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Jeff Zients, who is leading the nation’s Covid response efforts for the White House.
Thus far, the Food and Drug Administration has authorized the vaccines made by BioNTech/Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. Officials have said the AstraZeneca vaccine is also likely to be accepted. The exact date has yet to be disclosed, but is expected to be in early November. Once in the U.S., phone numbers and contact details will also be taken for contact tracing, and masks must be worn for the journey to and from the United States. “It’s simple: Masking helps stop the spread of COVID-19. If you break the rules, be prepared for the consequences,” Zients said.
The travel bans were first put in place by Donald Trump 18 months ago. He removed them on his final day in the White House, but they were immediately reimposed by Biden. In fact, the Biden administration had been cautious about reversing the bans, as the contagious Delta variant of coronavirus spread.
The new regime will replace the 212f restrictions which currently prevent anyone from entering the U.S if they had been in 33 specific countries including the UK, Ireland, all Schengen countries, Brazil, South Africa, India, and China within the last 14 days. After more than 550 days of shut borders, this is not only a positive step forward for global economic recovery, but also to safely reunite wishful families and friends across the world.
